Urban Greenhouse
Competition Entry
This proposal concerns an abandoned and derelict piece of land, which lies south of an urban park, right next to a church.
The design seeks to reconstitute the site as an urban space through a structure that will suggest and trigger connections between the public and the park.
Constructed out of galvanized steel, this structure builds on the familiar form of a greenhouse while at the same time aspires to become a frame for climbing vegetation.
The resulting imagery acquires the aesthetics of an “inverted greenhouse where plant life will inevitably alter it – seasonally and as years progress.
The structure via platforms and openings connects with the park but at the same time becomes its border and an obstacle for airborne noise generated by road traffic.
Internally, users can discover a secluded environment where light and shadows are locked together in a constant interplay. Here they can organize activities and participate in events that will bring the neighborhood together and establish for the place a public character.
